We are nearing close to Easter Sunday, Resurrection Sunday, and it is my favorite time of the year! To celebrate the resurrected savior along my family and to teach my kids about the God who lives and died for them is number one goal! Just now that it doesn’t have to be a huge event to be meaningful and fun!
I wanted to put together easy crafts or activities that we have used through the years that will make learning about the last week of our Jesus’s life fun and easy!
Holy week is the week leading up to Easter Sunday and it starts with Palm Sunday. This year it starts on March 24th, 2024 and ends March 31st, 2024 on Easter. Following all of Holy Week is a great way to bring deeper meaning to Good Friday and Easter. This guide is not focused on an actual timeline but the events themselves. On monday you will make a prayer jar and read about jesus praying in the garden.
Here is a glimpse of what we will be doing and have done in past years:
Palm Sunday
- Activity: Make hand shaped palms and wave them around. This is a fun dance party time!
- Read: Matthew 21:2-11
- Memorize: Matthew 21:4
Holy Monday
- Activity: Make a prayer jar- A simple jar and some popsicle sticks, ask everyone to list something they would like to pray for this year. It could be schools, churches, pastor, their friends, family anything. They get to keep the stick as reminder to pray.
- Read: Mark 14:32-42
- Memorize: Mark 14:36
Holy Tuesday
- Activity: Make crosses out of salt or tape resist cross- simple form a cross our salt or tape and use water colors to paint the salt.
- Read: John 3:13-17
- Memorize: John 3:16
Holy Wednesday
- Activity: Feet washing station- we have painted our feet in the past to get them “dirty” at the end of our painted feet walk we will have a chair with a bucket of water and someone waiting to wash that persons feet.
- Read: John 13:3-17
- Memorize: John 14:14
Maundy Thursday
- Activity: Have your own “Last Supper”- make your own feast and eat together!
- Read: Mark 14:22-25
- Memorize: Mark 14:25
Good Friday
- Activity: Stained glass cross on your door- We have a storm door so we will be creating a cross with tape and letting the kids paint on the glass door. you can also do this on a window or even paper.
- Read: Mark 15:25-34, Luke 23:33-46
- Memorize: Luke 23:46
Holy Saturday
- Activity: Family worship- Put a playlist together on youtube of 4-5 songs with lyrics and sing them together you can end the night with prayer.
- Read: Mark 15:37-46
- Memorize: Mark 15:38
Resurrection Sunday (Easter Sunday)
- Activity: Praise poster “Because he lives…” – write down all that Christ has done in your lives, for those who can’t yet write parents can write it for them. You can also celebrate by making gifts for your neighbors.
- Read: Mark 16:1-8, Luke 24:36-43
- Memorize: Luke 24:39
The simpler you keep it the more likely you are to include a few if not most of these. We added slowly thru the year to our list only doing a feast on Thursdays and worship time when we had all littles. This is not meant to be a stressful time of more things to do but a fun time of events we get to learn about! Enjoy with your family and celebrate that Jesus not only died for them but rose again!
