I’ll be the first to admit I am not a huge parenting book fan. To me parenting books always seem to speak in hindsight and not very practically. I know there’s wealth of knowledge out there in parenting books but to me it’s just seemed very overwhelming. They usually point to pieces I am missing and in ways I was failing, and who wants to be reminded of that!
The exception for me comes in the form of “mom books”. I can easily breeze thru a mom book and see it as a friend guiding or a sister speaking advice. I love the way they encourage and uplift, while also reminding us that things will ever be perfect and we will fail. They tell us how to walk thru the failures with Christ as our guide and those books I LOVE!
I wanted to share in this post some of the most influential mom & homeschool books I’ve read thru the years. These books are the ones I go back to time after time, the ones that have influenced my family in one way or another. It goes without saying that the Bible is of course at the center of it all. God’s word is one of my biggest influence and guiding light.
Here’s a list of 15 books that have shaped my homeschool and my mom life:
- Educating the Wholehearted Child
- Life Giving Home
- Teaching from Rest
- For the Children’s Sake
- The Well Trained Mind
- Read-Aloud Family
- Wild and Free
- Brave Learner
- Modern Miss Mason
- Homeschooling Bravely
- Devoted
- Mission of Motherhood
- The Unhurried Homeschooler
- Honey for a Child’s Heart
- Hard is not the Same as Bad
I hope you found this list helpful to you and maybe you own or can check out some of these books from your local library. Im sure this list will continue to grow as I continue to be encouraged by other who are head of me. We aren’t in this motherhood walk alone and we can gain a great amount of knowledge from reading the words of those who have gone before us. Always remember though that Christ is our anchor and guiding light.
